Muzzleloader season opens Saturday in Zone 12, which includes most of Ashley County.
According to the Arkansas Game and Fish’s website, deer season will open for muzzleloaders on Saturday and close on Oct. 19 and close on Oct. 27.
There will be a special modern gun youth hunt for hunters under the age of 15 on Nov. 2-3 and Jan. 4-5. Modern gun season will open on Nov. 9 and go through Dec. 15 and will open again from Dec. 26-28.
According to the guidelines published by the AGFC, the statewide seasonal bag limit is six deer of which no more than two may be bucks.
The statewide limit may be taken in any combination of zones or methods, as long as zone bag limits are not exceeded.
The Zone 12 bag limit is six deer and the combination is two bucks with either archery, muzzleloader or modern gun; six does with archery; or six does with muzzleloader and modern gun combined.
Legal bucks must be button bucks or have at least three points on one side of their rack.
In Zone 12, dogs are allowed for deer hunting Nov. 9-Dec. 15 and up to two dogs may be used to blood trail wounded deer.
In Zone 16A which is the eastern corner of Ashley County and most of Chicot and Desha, muzzleloader season opens Oct. 19-27 and modern guns opens Nov. 9 through Dec. 24.
Zone 16A will also have a special youth hunt on Nov. 2-3 and again on Jan, 4-5.
Modern gun season will open back up in Zone 16A on Dec. 26-28 as well.
The Zone 16 A bag limit is four deer which can be a combination of two bucks with either archery, muzzleloader or modern gun; four does with archery or two does with muzzleloader and modern gun combined. Legal bucks in Zone 16A must be button bucks or have antlers with at least 15-inch inside spread or 18-inch main beam.
Dogs allowed for deer hunting Nov. 9-Dec. 24 and up to two dogs may be used to blood trail wounded deer.
