The Hamburg Lions tried to keep the Warren Lumberjacks at bay during their last game of the season, played on Warren’s home turf.
The Lumberjacks scored the first touchdown of the game despite an onslaught of tackles made by the Hamburg defense.
That touchdown came less than 10 minutes into the game; the point after kick was good, putting seven points on the scoreboard for the Lumberjacks.
The Lion’s first drive of the game saw Lions’ No. 2 Willis Robinson making moves down the field, gaining 29 yards in all. Lions’ No. 1 Tyson Brooks completed a pass for 12 yards before he ended up running the ball for 17 yards.
It was after Warren had called a time out when Lions’ No. 16 Tracker Whited made a short run with the ball for six yards, followed by a four-yard run that gained the team their first—and only—touchdown of the game, followed by a good kick by No. 25.
The kick tied the teams’ scores at 7 to 7 with around three minutes left in the first quarter.
During those last three minutes, the Lumberjacks continued to push but couldn’t make it to the end zone through the tackles made by Lions’ No. 10 Zane Johnson, No. 9 Peyton Sellars, and Whited.
The Lumberjacks made attempts to pass as well, but Lions’ No. 4 Cam Carter and No. 13 Brent Holland kept those passes from being completed, so the first quarter ended with the two teams still tied.
The second quarter was good for the Lumberjacks—they scored 21 more points against the Lions, bringing their score to 28, to the Lions’ 7.
The third quarter saw the Lions hang onto possession until just around the nine-minute mark, when the Lumberjacks started their first drive of the quarter. However, it was during Warren’s second drive that the team was able to score against the Lions again, bringing the score to 35—7.
The Lions were unable to put points on the board while they had the ball, but during the Lumberjacks’ next push, the Lions’ No. 4 Cam Carter intercepted a pass from Warren’s No. 14 that was intended for Lumberjack No. 4.
The Lumberjacks ended up scoring once again after recovering a fumble by Hamburg, taking the score to 42—7, with only 1:35 left on the clock for Hamburg at the end of the third quarter.
Neither team scored during the last quarter of the game, leaving the Hamburg Lions with the score of 7 points to the Lumberjacks’ 42.
