The Hamburg Lady Lions beat the Monticello Lady Billies in a nail biting overtime on Thursday night.
The game was back and forth the whole night, but the Hamburg girls finished on top 52-48.
The student section was on their feet the entire second half of the game as the Lions battled it out with Lady Billies. The score was 44-42 with the Billies up and only two minutes left to go in the game.
Khya Robinson went to the free throw line to shoot for two. She missed her first one, but hit the second shot to make it a one-point game with only a minute to play.
Chasity Miller shot another free throw to make it 44-all, but Monticello answered with a free throw bumping their score to 45 with 12 seconds on the clock. Edwards shot two for the Lions, giving them 46, but the Billies went to the free throw line. The first shot went in, but the second did not, making the score 46-all with no time on the clock. During overtime Robinson and Edwards made a few shots, giving the Lions 50, but the Billies answered with a two-point shot making the score 50-48 with 38 seconds left in over time. Edwards shot two free throws, bumping the score up to 52-48 with the Lions still in the lead. The Lady Lion defense held Monticello off until the final buzzer and the Lady Lions celebrated a conference victory.
The Lady Lions are now 3-17 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
Both Lion teams fell to the Crossett Eagles on Friday night in Crossett. The Lady Lions started out with a small lead early in the game. They kept the score tied for most of the first half, but ultimately lost 46-32.
The boys team fought the entire game, but couldn’t get ahead and fell 67-44 to the Eagles.
The boys team is 0-10 in conference play with only two games left in the regular season.
The Lions traveled to Magnolia on Tuesday to face the Panthers but results were not available at press time. The Lions will travel to Camden on Friday to face the Camden Fairview Cardinals in their last game of the season.
