The Crossett Lady Eagles lost to Magnolia at home on Thursday, but grabbed a win over the weekend in a tournament game.
The Lady Eagles hosted Magnolia on Thursday night and fell 10-2.
The only two Eagle runs were scored in the fifth and sixth innings.
The Eagles came into bat in the bottom of the fifth trailing 6-0. Jayden Thurmon knocked Jenna Roberts in for the first Eagle score.
In the top of the sixth, the Eagles held Magnolia three up, three down. Mary Kate Armstrong struck out the first batter and Thurmon threw out the next two from short stop.
The Eagles came into bat trailing 6-1. Lainey Taunton started off with a single to third base and was moved around with a hit by Anna Claire Atchinson. Athchinson was thrown out at first, but Taunton was able to get to third base. Armstrong hit a grounder to third and was thrown out at first, but not before Taunton was able to cross the plate for the second Eagle run of the game. After a strikeout, the Eagles took the field to start the seventh trailing 6-2.
In the top of the seventh, the first hit was a stand up double and the next batter knocked her in for a Magnolia run.
The Panthers were able to score three more runs in the seventh for a final score of 10-2.
The Lady Eagles picked up a win on Friday night against Hampton.
The first Hampton batter walked on, but was thrown out stealing second and the next two batters were thrown out at first.
The Eagles came into bat and Roberts started them off with a line drive triple and Abbi Senn knocked her home with a single to left.
Thurmon walked on and she and Senn were both knocked in by Addison Christy’s line drive to center field.
Three outs later, the Lady Eagles took the field leading 3-0.
In the top of the second, Hampton tied the score.
The first batter hit a single, but Lynsy Foreman struck the second batter out. The third batter knocked a run in, and after a walk and a single was brought in for the second Hampton run. Hampton scored a third run before Thurman made a third out and the Lady Eagles came into bat with the score tied.
The Lady Eagles came into bat and took back the lead with a base hit by Atchinson, who Roberts hit in to make the score 4-3. Roberts was thrown out stealing second for the first out of the inning. Senn got on base with a fly ball to left and Thurmon hit a double that brought her around to third base. Christy lined out to shortstop for the second out of the inning and Taunton walked on to load the bases.
Armstrong hit three-run triple that sent Senn, Thurmon and Taunton all across home plate, giving Crossett a 7-3 lead over Hampton.
Sunni Beth Lee hit a double to center field that brought home Armstrong’s courtesy runner and then Lee was knocked in by Lexie Cameron, bringing the score to 9-3.
The rest of the innings were scoreless and the Lady Eagles celebrated their first win of the season.
The Lady Eagles lost a heartbreaker to Smackover on Saturday 6-5. Smackover was leading 2-0 in the bottom of the third when Thurmon hit a double that knocked two runs in to tie the score. Taunton knocked Thurmon in to give the Lady Eagles the lead 3-2 and Lee’s batting sent Taunton in making it 4-2.
In the top of the fourth, Smackover took back the lead with a two-out rally. Three Lady Eagle errors allowed them to score four runs, giving them a 6-4 lead over the Lady Eagles.
In the bottom of the fourth, the first Lady Eagle struck out, but Roberts and Senn both got base hits. The right fielder caught Thurmon’s hit, putting another out on the board.
Roberts stole home on a passed ball and the Lady Eagles only needed one more run to tie the score, but the shortstop caught Taunton’s line drive shot, ending the ball game with a 6-5 final score.
The Lady Eagles played Camden Fairview on Monday night and Junction City on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time. The Lady Eagles will host the Hamburg Lady Lions at 4 p.m. Thursday.
