The Lady Eagles won their first conference game of the season in Monticello last week.

Crossett beat the Lady Billies 58-20.

Jada Cooks led all scorers with 24 points. Shekirra Gavin, Jaylynn Hampton, Te’A Jenkins and Anaya Jones each scored seven points.

“We played great the entire game and I was proud of our effort defensively,” Coach Shanae Govan said after the game.

On Friday, the Lady Eagles traveled to Magnolia and grabbed a second conference win 49-39.

Jones led the offense with 15 points scored and had four blocks. Cooks scored 14 points and had seven rebounds and Gavin scored 11 points and was credited with six rebounds.

Govan said her team knew going into that game it would be difficult because Magnolia is very athletic and talented.

Even though the Lady Eagles held the lead the whole time, Govan said it was not an easy win and the girls had to fight the whole game.

“We wanted to focus on our defense and we did a great job at holding them to 39 points,” Govan said.

The Lady Eagles played at Camden on Tuesday and will travel to Hamburg for another game on Friday.

The Lady Eagles are not scheduled to play at home until they host Jack Robey on Monday night.

“It’s tough playing in this conference and on the road, but it’s good to be 2-0 right now,” Govan said.

“We still have a lot more season left and two of the best teams, Star City and Warren, left to play, but the Lady Eagles haven’t been in this position in a long time.”
