Lady Eagles claim two of three tournament games

The Crossett Lady Eagles beat the Lakeside girls’ team 40-36, one of two victories they claimed in the three games they played in the Commercial Bank Holiday Classic Tournament.

The Lady Eagles basketball team claimed victory in two of three games in the Commercial Bank Holiday Classic Tournament at Drew Central School in Monticello over the weekend.

The Lady Eagles started out Thursday with a close loss to Little Rock Mills 41-37, but came back with two wins on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the girls faced Lakeside from Lake Village and beat them for the third time this year. The Lady Eagles stayed in the lead the entire game, but the Lakeside Beavers nearly tied the game at half time. The score was 21-20 with the Lady Eagles only clenching to a one point lead at the half.

The girls came out after the half and fought to come out on top 40-36.

On Saturday morning, the Lady Eagles faced the Dermott Lady Rams for their last game of 2018 and came out on top with a 51-43 win.

The Lady Eagles will start the new year with just four losses, a significant improvement over last season.

“This time last year, we were 1-12, and today we ended our last game of 2018 with a record of 9-4, so I could not be more proud of our direction,” Coach Shanae Govan said.

The Lady Eagles and the Junior Lady Eagles will play at home against Magnolia Friday night. The junior girls will tip off at 5 p.m.
