The Hamburg High School Bass team fished in the state finals last weekend and three of Hamburg’s pairs placed in the top ten.

The tournament was fished on Lake Dardanell in  Russellville. 

Gavin Harrod and Lane Edwards finished in third place with a total weight of 12.01 pounds and qualified to fish in the national tournament in LaCrossee, Wis.

Ben Brockwell and Austin Fleming placed fifth with a weight of 11.02 pounds  and Brantley Anders and Dalton Haynes placed sixth with a weight of 10.14.

A team from Central Arkansas won first place. Masen Wade and Cody Ostendorf weighed in at 19 pounds, which was approximately five pounds more than the second place team.

Matthew Higby and John Case of Lamar placed second with a total weight of 14.15 pounds.

Austin Johnston and Cason Cannon of Mena finished in fourth place with a total weight of 11.12. 

The biggest fish of the day weighed 4 pounds and was caught by Austin Rose and Jarrett Burger from Mena High School. The Mena pair finished seventh overall.

Aaron Nelms and Tyler Cook of Hamburg also fished in the tournament, but finished in 20th place.

Crossett team Andrew McDonald and Griffin Courson fished the tournament as well and came in 16th place.

The 11th Annual High School Fishing World Finals and National Championship will be June 24 to 27 in Wisconsin.
