Hamburg takes to the field for annual Purple and White scrimmage

Eli Culp attempts to bring down Armad Taylor during the Hamburg High School Purple and White game Monday.

The Hamburg Lions played their annual Purple and White game on Monday night.

“I am extremely happy with our effort tonight,” Coach Cecil Ray Cossey said after the scrimmage.

Brett Rice was in at quarterback for the purple team and Nick Bridges played for the white team.

Cossey said though the offense had a few big plays, including break out runs by DJ Johnson, he was proud of how the defense flew to the ball.

“Overall I was happy with how hard we played in the heat,” Cossey said. “Obviously our execution still has a long way to go for us to compete at the level we want and to make a run at the playoffs.”

The Lions will travel to Junction City on Thursday for a scrimmage and will play Ashdown on Aug. 30.
