The Hamburg Lions played their last regular season game against Dumas last Thursday and are now preparing to host the first round of playoffs this week.
The Lions finished the season with only two conference losses and three total losses this season. In the 4A Region 8 Conference, the Lions fell to the Warren Lumberjacks and then to the Dumas Bobcats.
The Bobcats beat the Lions 36-8 in Hamburg last week. The Dumas defense held the Lions to only 21 passing yards and 78 rushing yards. Dumas’s quarterback Chris Harris completed 10 of 11 pass attempts for a total of 147 yards and the offense rushed for a total of 117 yards.
The Dumas loss moved Hamburg out of the number two seed in the playoffs, but Hamburg will still get to host one playoff game this season.
The Lions will now host the Lincoln Wolves who are 8-2 for the season and 5-2 in the 4A-Region 1 conference. The Wolves’ only losses so far this year were to Pea Ridge and Shiloh Christian. Lincoln is currently ranked 24 in the Diviision 4A and 90 in the state of Arkansas.
Hamburg finished the season 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the 4A Region 8 conference. Currently Hamburg is ranked 15 in the Division 4A and 90 in the state.
Lion quarterback Jonathan Kelley finished the regular season with a total of 113 completed passes for 1611 yards and 290 rushing yards. The majority of Kelley’s passing yards went to receiver Jalen Wilson who had 710 receiving yards for the regular season. Nicholas Bridges finished the regular season with 329 total receiving yards.
Running back Derrick Webb finished the season with 505 total yards rushing and DJ Johnson finished with 278 total rushing yards.
So far this year, Gage Price had led the Lion defense with 37 solo tackles and 36 assists. Behin him Gavin Harrod had 51 regular season total tackles and Bryce Wesson had 46.
The Lions will now spend the week preparing for the Lincoln Wolves. Friday night’s game will kick off at 7 p.m. at Campbell field.
