The Hamburg Lions baseball beat Camden Fairview at home Monday night after losing two on the road last week..
Drake Rice knocked Gavin Harrod in to home plate for the first run of the ball game and the Lions took the field in the bottom of the first winning 1-0.
Brayden Berry struck three batters out and brought the Lions in to start the second inning.
The Lions weren’t able to score again until the top of the third, when Connor Jones hit a line drive to left field to bring Nigel Lewis into home plate and Harrod around to third. Harrod stole home for another run and the Lions were leading 3-0 with two outs on the board.
The Lion defense held Camden to no score again and the Lions came in to start the fourth inning still in the lead by three.
The bases were loaded and a walk brought Colton Hodge into home for another Hamburg score. Connor Jones hit a single bringing Harrod into home and the Lions were leading 6-0.
Camden managed to get a run across in the fourth inning and sixth innings and scored two in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to catch up.
Last week, the Hamburg Lions fell 12-4 to the Magnolia Panthers in a Thursday game.
The Lions were leading 2-0 until the bottom of the second, when Magnolia took over the lead.
Nigel Lewis was the first batter in Hamburg’s lineup and walked on base. Gavin Harrod hit a pop fly to third and reached first on error, but Lewis was thrown out advancing to second.
Drake Rice hit a line drive to right field moving Harrrod on around to third and Connor Jones walked on loading the bases.
Harrod was able to steal home on a wild pitch just before Toby Spurlock’s hit to center field was caught for the second out.
Brayden Berry walked on loading the bases again and Dalton Gill hit a single that knocked Rice in for the second run of the game.
Maddox Lackey hit a grounder to the shortstop for the third out and the Lions took the field leading 2-0.
Lackey caught the first Magnolia out in left field and Lewis scooped up a grounder on short stop for the second out.
The Panthers managed to get a runner on base, but Harrod struck out the next batter to leave him stranded on base.
In the top of the second, Bruin Barnes, Harrod and Rice all hit singles to get on base, but a pop fly catch and double play kept the Lions from adding to their score.
The Lions hit the field, but this time they weren’t able to keep the Panthers from bringing in runs.
Barnes caught the first out in right field, but the next batter hit a double. The next batter was hit by the ball, giving the Panthers a runner on first and third. Three walks in a row moved in two runs and a wild pitch brought in the third Magnolia run.
The next Panther hit a double to send in two more runs. A single followed for a sixth run.
The Lions were able to get a runner out at third and then Lewis threw a batter out from shortstop for the third out, sending the Lions in to bat.
In the top of the third, Berry hit a single and was brought around with a walk, and a hit by Barnes gave the Lions three. Lewis walked on, loading the bases. The next batter grounded into fielder’s choice, bringing the Lions back on the field trailing 6-3.
Magnolia scored three more runs in the bottom of the third, making the score 9-3 at the end of the inning.
In the top of the fourth, Jones was able to get across the plate when Berry hit a double, but the Lions weren’t able to score after that.
The Lions will host Star City on Thursday night and Warren on Monday night.
