The Crossett basketball programs have started off with wins, but games have already started falling off of their schedule because of COVID-19.
The Eagles and Lady Eagles both beat Franklin Parish last week and on Friday the boys got another win against Parkers Chapel.
However, this week’s games have already been canceled. Coach Shanae Govan said their opponents were forced to cancel because of COVID-related issues in their own facilities.
Last week, the boys won 71-37 over Franklin Parish. Derrick Luckey scored 34 points for the Eagles. Tavey Brown scored 16. Jack Rice scored nine. Jaylon Brown and Trace Jones each put up six points.
On Friday they traveled to Parkers Chapel and won 68-38. Luckey scored 25 points and Trace Jones scored 15. Rice had nine and Tavey Brown had 7.
Because the Eagles are still in the football playoffs, Coach Dominic Lincoln only had five players at each game.
“Playing with five — just five — is tough, but this is a tough five,” Lincoln said.
The Lady Eagles beat Franklin Parish 58-46 in the Crossett Arena last week.
Jada Cooks scored 21 points and Anaya Jones put up 14. Freshman CeCe Gilliam scored 20 total points for the Lady Eagles.
“We are great team and this was a great night, I am so proud of my girls,” Govan said.
The Lady Eagles lost a close one to Parkers Chapel 42-38 on the road on Friday.
Govan said it was a tough loss, but they will have to get back in the lab and prepare for their next opponent. Anaya Jones led all scorers with 15 and Cooks had 10.
“It was a tough one, but there is more to come and I believe these girls have a very good season ahead of them,” Govan said.
The Lady Eagles and Eagles basketball teams will post updated information about their schedule to the school’s social media pages as soon as the information is available.
