The Eagles are now 2-3 this basketball season after a tournament loss to Junction City last weekend, but the junior high boys picked up a win against Hampton.
Coach Dominic Lincoln said the boys started from behind in the Junction City game and were never able to catch back up.
“Slow starts and trying to play from behind have been our problem all year, and I have to make adjustments to help improve the way we start games,” Lincoln said.
The final score was 55-52, and Lincoln said though the team lost the game, it had some positive moments.
Jack Rice scored 14 points for the Eagles and hit four three-point shots.
“Jack works extremely hard, and I hope this is something he can build off of,” Licoln said.
Derrick Luckey and Jaylon Brown each put up 10 points for the Eagles.
The boys are still competing in the Dual State Tournament in Junction City and are scheduled to face Santo tonight in Junction City. They could potentially have a game on Saturday depending on tonight’s game.
They will play again at home Monday night following the junior girls and the Lady Eagles’ games, which start at 5 p.m.
Lincoln said the junior high boys team is on a roll and is playing with great chemistry.
The junior boys won 41-11 against Hamtpon on Thursday night.
Lincoln said they didn’t keep a book during the Hampton game, so he didn’t have specific stats, but said he expects the team to do well once the regular season tips off.
“I love these guys’ energy and effort that they play with,” Lincoln said. “The best thing about them is they enjoy playing together and have great chemistry.”
The junior boys are not scheduled to play again until after the holiday break.
