The Crossett Eagles played two games in the Drew Central Classic last weekend.
After placing second in the tournament last year, the Eagles lost two and were out this year.
On Friday they played a close game against the Parkers Chapel Trojans and lost by three points.
They were down 28-23 at the half and ultimately lost 49-46.
On Saturday they faced the tournament hosts, the Drew Central Pirates.
The Eagles led the first quarter, scoring 16 and holding the Pirates to 13.
The Eagles were still leading 27-24 at the half-time break.
In the third quarter, the Eagles were only able to score five points and the Pirates got 14 in. The fourth quarter saw the Eagles put another six on the board, but the Pirates coutered with 21 of their own, making the final 59-38.
Last season, the Eagles beat Parkers Chapel and Lakeside from Lake Village to advance to the championship game, where they lost to Dermott in a nail biter 50-49.
This year, Monticello will play the winner of the Dermott and Lake Village Lakeside Beaver matchup for the Drew Central Holiday title.
The Eagles are now 4 and 6 overall and will start league play next week.
The Eagles will play their first conference game against the Monticello Billies in Monticello on Jan. 7.
Monticello is currently 7 and 4 for the season with their only losses to two Texas teams in a preseason out-of-state tournament. Their other losses were to Sheriden and Pine Bluff.
The Eagles will travel to Magnolia on Jan. 10 and Camden on Jan. 14.
The Eagles will play in Hamburg for the rivalry game on Jan. 17 and in Warren on Jan. 21.
The Eagles will not play on their home court until Jan. 28 when they host the Star City Bulldogs.
