The Crossett girls’ tennis team won a singles match and a doubles match against Magnolia last week, but the boys team didn’t bring home any wins.
The Eagles traveled to Hamburg last Thursday to face Magnolia in their sixth tennis match of the season. Coach Grant Collins said he was proud of his team’s performance.
“Magnolia had some really great athletes in tennis this year with extremely hard serves and a couple of years of experience,” Collins said. “They made a very competitive team.”
Jenna Cate Roberts won her match against Angie Saldana 6 to 2, but Jayden Thurman lost her match to Abbie Jolly 6 to 8.
In the girls’ doubles rounds, Mary Kate Armstrong and Roberts won 7 to 5 in their match, but Sidney Mills and Desiree Sivek lost 3 to 6 in their match against Sierra Putney and Aletha Rich.
In the boys’ singles rounds, Carson McDonald lost 0 to 8 in his match against Kevin Zhao and Griffin Courson lost 2 to 6 in his match against Daniel Reyes.
In boys’ doubles, Carson McDonald and Griffin Courson lost 1 to 8 in their match against Tristan Malone and Keith Watson. Grant Roberson and Jack Rice lost 2-6 against Blake Prince and Jake Nielsen.
“I thought that all of our players did great considering the team they were up against,” Collins said.
The tennis team played in Hamburg Tuesday, but results were not available at press time. The Eagles will host a tennis match at 4 p.m. Thursday against the Star City Bulldogs.
