The Crossett track teams will defend their state championship titles this week after hosting the district meet last week.

Both boys and girls track teams finished as 4A-8 District runners-up behind Magnolia.

The boys team won second place in all three relays and won several individual events.

Desmond Harris won the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:55:65 and second place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:51:48. DeAndre Webb won first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.36 and second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.31.

In the jump events, James Hampton won the high jump with a 6-8 and his teammate Jaylon Brown finished behind him in second with a 6-6. Dewayne Ashford placed second in the triple jump with a 44-7.

Other top five events for the boys include Treyveon Chatman, who placed third in the 100-meter and the 200-meter dash; Willie Taylor, who placed fifth in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 200-meter dash; Kameron Williams, who placed third in the 400-meter dash with teammates Tyreke Caldwell and Devon Shaver coming in behind him in the fourth and fifth spots; Jabari Holmes, who placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles; and Jackson Moore, who placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles. Ashford placed fifth in the high jump and long jump and Kantrell Williams placed fifth in the triple jump.

On the girls team, Anaya Jones won both hurdle events and placed in two of the jump events. Jones won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.02 and the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.14. She also placed third in the high jump, long jump and triple jump.

Jaylynn Hampton won triple jump with a 36-3 and placed second in the long jump and high jump. Jada Thorton placed second in the pole vault event.

Other top five events for the girls include Harmony Green, who placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.38 and teammate Shekirra Gavin, who placed third with a 13.49. Green also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash.

Charity Watkins placed third in the 400-meter dash with Gavin coming in fourth. Jayden Thurmon placed fourth in the 800-meter run. Watkins placed fifth in the high jump and in in the pole vault event and Haleigh Boston placed fifth in the shot put event.

The Hamburg High School Track teams competed in the district track meet last week as well. The boys team placed fifth out of seven teams and the girls team placed seventh out of seven teams. Cierra Tucker, a runner for the girls team, won first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.06 and second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.14.

Other top five individual awards include Emily Ward-Miller, who placed third in the 100-meter hurdles; Jamal Brewer, who placed fourth in the 100-meter dash; and Bryant Gonzalez, who placed fourth in the 1600-meter run and fifth in the 800-meter run.

The boys relay team also placed fourth out of six teams in the 4 by 400-meter relay and in the 4 by 100-meter relay.

Armod Taylor, Gage Selby, Nick McNeil and Brewer all ran in the 4 by 100-meter relay and DJ Johnson, Nazalene Carter, Gonzalez and McNeil ran in the 4 by 400-meter relay.

The teams are currently competing at the 4A State Championship Meet in Batesville.
