Crossett hosts pre-state baseball tournament

Brantley Pennington prepares to stop a ball in right field during the pre-state tournament at the Crossett Recreation Complex last weekend. Teams from Magnolia, Fordyce, and Monticello joined five teams from Crossett in the tournament.

The Crossett Recreation Complex hosted a pre-state baseball tournament for divisions 12U, 10U and 8U on Saturday with visiting teams from Monticello, Magnolia, Fordyce and other south Arkansas towns.

The local teams that particpated were the 12U division Ashley County Aces and the 11U Crossett All-Stars.

The Aces placed second behind a team from Magnolia.

The 10U Crossett All-Stars and the 9U Crossett All-Stars both played in the 10U division, but neither team placed.

The 8U All-Star team was the only local team to play in the 8U division and they placed second behind the Monticello All-Stars.

The Crossett teams will all travel to their various state tournaments over the next two weekends.

The 8U, 9U and 10U Crossett All-stars will all travel to Conway on Saturday to play in the United States Sports Specialty Association state tournament.

The Ashley County Aces and Ashley County Regulators will travel to Fort Smith the last week of June for the travel ball USSSA state tournament.
