Crossett drops benefit scrimmage to Bastrop

The Crossett Eagles played in Bastrop on Friday night. The pre-season scrimmage was played in two 15-minute halves.

The Crossett Eagles traveled to Bastrop on Friday night to face the Rams. The teams played two 15 minute halves.

Though the game started with a kickoff return for an Eagle touchdown by Lamonte Gillum, the Eagles fell 26 to 13.

After Gillum‘s opening touchdown, the Rams were able to answer with a touchdown, but their two-point attempt was no good.

They kicked off to the Eagles, but held them to a punt and the score was 6-6 with 7:25 to play in the first half.

The Eagles punted back to the Rams and they were able to get the ball in the end zone with a jet sweep bringing the score to 12-6. The two-point attempt was no good, but the Eagles were still trailing by six with 4:20 to play in the half.

On the next Eagle drive, Dewayne Ashford caught two short passes and ran the second one to the end zone for the score.

The extra point kick was good and the Eagles were up 13-12 over the rams. The Rams scored again before the break. Their two-point attempt was good and the score was 20-13.

The Rams were the only team to score in the second half, making the final 26-13.

Crossett will travel to Magnolia on Friday to face the Panthers and they will host the White Hall Bulldogs on Sept. 13 for their first home game of the season.
