The Crossett High School and Crossett Middle School Cross Country teams competed at Southern Arkansas University last weekend and had a runner place in the top six out of 100 runners.

Eric Massenburg, an eight grader, finished in the top six, and the boys, team of Massenburg, Hayden Swan, Clay Meeks, Dylan Pritchard, Max Brooks and JJ Knighton finished sixth over all.

The girls team — Kali Beth Terrell, Lynzee Watt, Abbey Senn, Daley McDonald, Lana Townley, Katie Harrington and Selena Cone — took home ninth place in front of 20 other teams.

The Cross Country team brought home first place and other awards following a meet in Hamburg two weeks ago.

Desmond Harris, of the CHS team, won first place in the boys’ division with a time of 19 minutes and 34 seconds.

Lynzee Watt with the CMS girls’ team finished fifth in the junior girls’ division.

The CMS boys team won second place overall, and runners Eric Massenburg and JJ Kighton placed individually.

The Hamburg meet was actually week three in the cross-country season. The first meet was in Moro Bay Sept. 15, but the meet scheduled for week two in Star City was canceled due to inclement weather.

In Moro Bay, Massenburg placed fourth in the junior high category out of more than 100 runners.

This year’s cross country program is coached by Austin Canady.

The CHS and CMS cross country teams will compete Saturday in Magnolia at the Southern Arkansas University campus.
