Crossett Eagles baseball is headed to the regional tournament this weekend.

The team finished the regular season with a 7-7 record in conference play, which gave them the opportunity to compete at regionals with a fourth place bid.

The Eagles’ final conference victory of the regular season was a 12-3 win against Hamburg, which the Lions hosted on April 20.

The win was a repeat victory for Crossett, which had also claimed a 17-2 game over Hamburg in mid-March.

The 2021 4A Baseball South Regional Tournament will be in Nashville, Ark.

Crossett is set to play in game No. 1 of the tournament against the Bauxite Miners at 10 a.m. May 6.

Bauxite has a 17-8 record and is 13-1 in conference play. The team is ranked No. 1 in 4A Region 7. Their most recent win was a 3-0 victory over DeQueen on April 30, and their most recent loss was 13-2 against the Harmony Grove Hornets on April 26.

When the Eagles played Harmony Grove on April 15, Crossett fell to the Hornets 7-4.

Game No. 2 of the tournament is between the Magnolia Panthers and the Malvern Leopards at 12:30 p.m. May 6. The winners of Game 2 will face the winners of Game 1 in the semifinal round on May 7.

When the Eagles played the Panthers on April 13, Magnolia took home an 8-5 win; the teams’ first matchup of the season, on March 12, also ended with a Panther victory, 12-0.

Bauxite beat Malvern 13-2 when they played on April 27.

Game No. 3 will play at 3 p.m. May 6, and will feature the Camden Fairview Cardinals and the Arkadelphia Badgers, while Game No. 4, between Nashville’s Scrappers and Warren’s Lumberjacks, will be at 5:30 p.m. May 6. The winners of games 3 and 4 will play in the semifinal round.

If Crossett and Warren both make it to the championship round in Game No. 7, which is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. May 8, what happens on the diamond could amount to a grudge match for an Eagle team twice frustrated this season by Warren’s ability to match their batting and field efforts.  Both times the Eagles have played the Lumberjacks, the games have been tight races to the finish that ended with Warren clenching a single-point victory, 4-3 on April 23 and 5-4 on March 30.

The game to determine third place in the tournament is scheduled for noon May 8.

The team finished the regular season with a 7-7 record in conference play, which gave them the opportunity to compete at regionals with a fourth place bid.
