For Chris Branson, it’s once an Eagle, always an Eagle.

Branson signed Crossett’s first soccer scholarship last week.

The soccer program is only two years old, and Branson is the first ever CHS soccer athlete to play at the next level.

He signed with Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge.

“There were other schools, but as soon as the coach offered, I accepted,”

Branson said.

Branson has not always been a soccer player. Last season was his first to ever play.

“If you would have asked me last year at this time if I would be going to college on a soccer scholarship, I would have said no,” Branson said.

Coach Chuck Rawlings said Branson is a natural soccer player and named him the Offensive MVP for the 2018 season.

“It’s amazing how fast these kids pick up on stuff, but Chris is just a natural athlete,” Rawlings said.

Rawlings said he got Branson a tryout at other places, but Branson was quick to choose the Williams Baptist Eagles.

“I knew he would be able to play at the next level and I’m glad to see he is going somewhere,” Rawlings said.
