The Crossett boys are in the winners’ bracket of the Hamburg Junior High Tip-Off Classic basketball tournament, and Hamburg is scheduled to play their first game Thursday.

The tournament started Monday with two junior girls’ games and one junior boys’ game.

In the girl’s bracket, Hermitage beat Woodlawn and is now set to play Hamburg at 6:20 p.m. Thursday. Dermott beat the Crossett girls 24-12, and Dermott will now play McGehee at 4 p.m. Thursday, sending the Lady Eagles to the losers’ bracket.

“It was a tough loss tonight, but they played hard from start to finish, and as a coach I couldn’t be more proud,” Lady Eagle Coach Shanae Govan said.

The winners of the two Thursday night games will face each other in the championship game scheduled for 2:40 p.m. Saturday. The losers will play at 12:20 p.m. Saturday for the third place title.

Crossett and Woodlawn girls teams went to the loser’s bracket after Monday night’s games and will play each other at 10 a.m. Saturday morning in a consolation game.

“I know we can capitalize on the mistakes we made to prepare for Saturday against Woodlawn,” Govan said.

In the boys’ bracket, only one game was played Monday and the Crossett Eagles were the winners. Crossett boys beat Dermott and are now scheduled to play Dumas at 5:10 p.m. Thursday.

“I am extremely proud of the effort and energy our guys played with last night,” Eagle Coach Dominick Lincoln said. “We have a good group and I’m so excited, but there is so much work that needs to be done to improve this season.”

Freshman Denzel Watkins scored the most baskets with a total of 12, and Lincoln said he was extremely proud to see Jaylan Brown playing with confidence and looking for his shots.

“It’s always good to see these guys get rewarded with good games,” Lincoln said.

The Hamburg boys will play their first bracket game against Woodlawn at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The winners of the 5:10 p.m. game and the 7:30 p.m. game will play in the Championship game at 3:50 p.m. Saturday. The boys’ loser bracket games will be at 11:10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. that day.

All games will be in the Hamburg basketball gym.
