The Hamburg High School and Crossett High School cheer squads attended their annual camps last week.
The CHS cheerleaders attended the National Cheer Association camp in Hot Springs. The squad’s sponsor, Judy McKay, said they won the Jam Dance award, the spirit stick, the Sophie award and were deemed “excellent” in the motions category. They also won multiple blue ribbons.
CHS cheerleaders Daley McDonald, Anna Claire Atchinson and Jada Thornton were named All-American Cheerleaders. The NCA All-American Cheerleading Team consists of cheerleaders who are nominated by staff based on their individual talents as a cheerleader.
The Hamburg High School Cheerleaders, sponsored by Rose Hamilton, attended a Universal Cheer Association camp at the Arkansas State University campus in Jonesboro last week.
The Hamburg squad had three girls named to the UCA All-American squad Courtney Carrico, Callie Martin and Mary Lauhon.
The UCA All-American tryouts are open to all senior squad members and contestants are judged based on their jumps, rally routine dance and stunts.
The Hamburg cheer squad also won first place in the Game Day competition and placed second in the rally routine and overall cheer competition. They placed third in the sideline competition.
