The Crossett High School marching band halftime show theme for 2019 is “Worlds of Fantasy.” The theme is based on “World Of Warcraft,” a computer game.
CHS band director John McClaren chose year’s theme in early May. He chose the music because he liked the drama of it.The band started learning the show in late June. The field performance sets up as an army and there is a “battle” scene between the flags.
“With all the violence going on in the world I thought it would have been a bad time for the name World of Warcraft,” McCalren said. “This is why I decided to name the show ‘Worlds of Fantasy.’”
Senior Victoria Porter, a clarinet player said, “This has been my favorite theme by far in my four years of marching. I love the idea, music, and everything about it.
Sophomore Avery Pennington said she really liked the theme.
“When we first went over it, I didn’t think I would like it,” she said. “Now that we’ve put effort into it, I enjoy it.”
Senior clarinet player Frederunna Scott appreciated the change-up the theme represents.
“It’s different from what we have done marching wise,” she said
The band practices every Tuesday from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. The band performs the show each Friday night at the football game during halftime. They will compete in All-Region Band Contest with the show at Warren near the end of football season.
