The Crossett High School band went to El Dorado March 12 and competed in the 4A prepared reading and sight reading competition. The CHS band received a rating of one in sight reading and a two rating in prepared reading on a level of one to five with one being the highest.

During the sight reading competition, the band is given a piece of music to read and has eight minutes to look it over without playing an instrument.

They then perform for the judges to receive their rating.

In the prepared reading competition, the band prepares and practices before going to compete. The band played “Charles 3,” by Don Colquitt, “Echos from a Russian Cathedral,” by P.I. Tchaikovsky, and “Into The Arctic,” by Brian Balmages.

The CHS and Crossett Middle School bands will perform at the spring concert May 2, during which the high school band will perform the same selections and other pieces of music.
