The Crossett High School Beta Club went to State Beta Convention in Hot Springs Jan. 24 to 26. Seventy-three students represented CHS at this year’s convention, “Fueling the Future.”

The students competed in group contests that included Beta build, living lit, service learning showcase, group talent, portfolio, quiz bowl and banner.

Individually, students competed in creative writing, poetry, engineering, math, jewelry division I, recyclable art division I, sculpture division I, fiber arts division I, and painting division I. The students placed in the top five in group talent and had to perform again Saturday morning. The group of CHS Betas won second place overall in group talent.

The students performed a Mary Poppins theme with soloist Karis Staley as Mary Poppins, Cody Kelley as Burt, Levi Taylor as Michael, Sydney Watkins as Jane and Gabe Jordan as the narrator. Melea Rainey, CHS Beta sponsor Kristin Morris and Kelsey Dumas choreographed the number.

Damean Bailey won second place in fiber arts division one and third place in jewelry.
