Hamburg High School recently had the opportunity to send six students to the Four State Bandmasters Convention.

The Four States Bandmasters Association is an organization that allows top band members to travel to Texarkana, Texas. The clinic is a week after area tryouts in January each year. The clinic’s goal is to determine which students from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma will qualify for the convention.

The Four State Bandmasters Association provides clinics for directors with two days of exhibits as well as a Saturday concert featuring two concert bands and a jazz band.

HHS students who attended included Daniela Mondragon, Ashely Strange, Trey Hux, Walker Davis, Lexi-Ruth Freeman and Diana Lucena. Students were excused from school on Thursday and Friday to travel to the competition, where they competed until Saturday afternoon.

While at Four States, students got the chance to  rehearse music, listen to different speakers, and play in different concerts. Hamburg High School Band Director Justin Burns said he was  pleased with what the students accomplished while there.

“Students put on an amazing performance,” Burns said, adding that he cannot wait to see what next year holds for the HHS Band.
