Law enforcement officials in Ashley County are investigating an alleged bank robbery in Hamburg.
The robbery happened at Southern Bancorp at approximately 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning. A suspect, Tramon Savage, was arrested shortly after the incident. He is currently being detained in the Ashley County Jail.
Early in the investigation officials said they believed he used a handgun when he entered the bank. Hamburg Police Chief Johnny Oliver later said, however, that the suspect used a BB gun.
Oliver said that they were able to identify Savage on camera while he was outside of the bank.
In the security film footage, Savage is reportedly seen covering his face with a mask and entering the bank. Savage can then be seen tossing a backpack on the teller’s counter. Oliver said once Savage had obtained the cash —which turned about to be approximately $3,000 — he exited the building.
Savage was arrested at 408 Hickory St., in Hamburg. Oliver said all of the cash was recovered.
Savage was charged with aggravated robbery and theft of property more than $2500.
As of Tuesday morning, Savage was still in custody and Oliver said his bond was set at $100,000.
