Fatal Crash

Two Ashley County residents died Friday in a vehicle collision on Highway 8 near Fountain Hill.

The deceased in the wreck, Drackus Charleston, 29, of Hamburg, and Sharrie Williams, 31, of Crossett were in the same vehicle, a 2010 Toyata.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 2018 Kenworth heavy-duty truck, was also injured in the crash.

The Arkansas State Police’s fatal crash summary says that the Toyota was traveling westbound on Highway 8 near its intersection with Highway 133 when the driver apparently lost control and traveled into the eastbound lane, in which the Kenworth was traveling.

The front end of the Kenworth struck the Toyota on its right side in the crash. The report notes that it was raining at the time of the crash and the road was wet.

Coroner Steve Hartshorn pronounced Charleston and Williams both dead at the scene at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The driver of the Kenworth has not been publicly identified.
