Police Chief Johnny Oliver and School Resource Officer Brandon Kelley introduced Teresa Tolliver as the newest Student Resource Officer for the Hamburg School District on Jan. 9.
Oliver said that Tolliver will be replacing Kelley as the SRO at Hamburg High School some time in March, and that Kelley will assume the role of dedicated SRO for Hamburg Junior High School.
Tolliver will shadow Kelley for a few weeks before working with the students on her own, Oliver said.
Oliver said that Tolliver’s experience in law enforcement and working with members of the public made her a great fit for the position.
He also pointed out that the female members of the student body may benefit in particular from having a female officer within the school, as it may be easier for them to approach her for whatever issue they may be facing.
Kelley told the district’s board of directors that he and Tolliver used to be partners when he worked for the Crossett Police Department.
He explained that she can be the sweetest person in the world, but she’s not afraid to face confrontation if necessary.
The board gave Tolliver a warm welcome, with Board President James Hartshorn saying that the officer’s March start date within the district cannot come fast enough.
Tolliver said she is looking forward to working with the students in the district, and is happy to be taking on this new role. She also thanked the district for the opportunity to serve her community in the role.
Tolliver has several years of experience in the field of law enforcement and worked as an investigator for the City of Crossett.
Tolliver briefly took a step away from a law enforcement position while she was busy earning a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Administration.
