Investigators with the Ashley County Sheriff’s office seized a large amount of methamphetamine and arrested six people Jan. 9.

Ashley County Sheriff’s Investigator Josh Pollock said Johnny Knight, Jarrod Knight, Anna Beth Reed, Zachary Daniel Norrell, Micheal Preston Carter and Britney Weckerle — all residents of Ashely County — were arrested after a search warrant was executed at a home in Hamburg.

According to reports at the sheriff’s office, investigators found more than an ounce of methamphetamine, multiple handguns and other illegal items at 342 Ashley 472.

Officers obtained the search warrant after two deputies went with a probation officer to look for a subject that was on parole and found paraphernalia.

Investigator Mark Griever wrote for a search warrant while two other investigators watched the house.

Pollock said that an ounce is a substantial amount and that users are typically arrested with, at the most, a couple of grams. An ounce of methamphetamine is 28 grams and the amount collected during Wednesday’s bust measured at approximately 31 grams.

“This was not a user arrest, this was a dealer arrest,” Pollock said.

Pollock said they also found evidence of manufacturing, but drugs were cooking at the time.

“Meth is affecting our community and the future of Ashley County,” Pollock said.

Pollock said getting dealers off the streets is a main priority at this time for the Ashley County Sheriff’s Department.

“Our Sheriff (Tommy Sturgeon) is very concerned about the future of our children, our community and our citizens, and all of (the deputies) will continue in our efforts to get the dealers off of the streets,” Pollock said.

The case is still under investigation and more information, including what each suspect was charged with, will be released at a later time.
