An Ashley County native died last week in an apparent single-vehicle crash in Union County.

The Arkansas State Police’s preliminary crash report said that Deeanna Moon, 52, formerly of Crossett and most recently of Strong, died in a crash on U.S. 82 after the 2013 Toyota Tacoma she was driving eastbound left the roadway and traveled approximately 200 feet before striking a pine tree.

The state police report records that troopers responded to the crash site at 2:50 p.m. May 30, but Moon had been missing for some time before that.

When she was reported missing, her last known interactions with those who knew her were on Wednesday, May 26. She had spoken with family members the day before.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office, the El Dorado Police Department and Life Flight Helicopter were involved in the  search for Moon before she was discovered.

Moon taught English at El Dorado High School, and following the news of her death the district released a statement acknowledging her passing.

“El Dorado Schools is deeply saddened by the passing of El Dorado High School teacher Deeanna Moon. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, co-workers, and students at this time. We send our sincere condolences to her family.”
