The Crossett Riding Club’s 71st Annual PRCA Rodeo will be in town a few months earlier this year, and events planned for this weekend will kick it off.

It’s not too late to decorate your business in red, white and blue western gear for this year’s contest, but the deadline is approaching soon. This year’s winners will be announced at one of the new events planned for Saturday, The Crossett Rodeo Roundup.

The Crossett Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Rodeo Roundup from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday in downtown Crossett.

Chamber Executive Director Mandy White said the event will have rides, games entertainment and various types of vendors. The laser tag, monkey motion game, mechanical bull, zip line, rock wall, and trackless train are all sponsored by the donors of Crossett’s Christmas in Crossett event. The event was moved because of the weather and — to avoid losing deposits on the items — White said they were able to change the rental dates.

“We hope everyone will come out and enjoy the afternoon, there will be something for everyone to enjoy,” White said.

The roundup event will be followed by a street dance featuring live music by the Zac Dunlap band at 6:30 p.m. This will be the band’s third year to perform at Crossett’s annual street dance.

On Wednesday, May 29, Southeast Insurance is hosting its second rodeo event, this year calling it Western Wednesday. The event will be from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Southeast Insurance parking lot and will feature a Blueberry Pie eating contest, free popsicles and other activities including a live performance by Todd Bradshaw, a Kenny Chesney impersonator. Whitney Gill with Southeast Insurance said Bradshaw is well known in Branson for his show titled “Kenny Chesney.”

“We are right here on Main Street and we enjoy doing something to help get everyone excited for the parade,” Gill said.

The annual rodeo parade will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, and for more information about parade rules and entering the float contest, contact Cherub Alford at the Crossett Economic Development office at 870-364-8745.

The two businesses with the best decorations will be announced and receive prizes on May 24. White said businessess must be decorated by 5 p.m. May 23.
