Physicians, parents speak on mask mandate

Dr. Brad Walsh addresses the Crossett School District's Board of Education at a meeting Tuesday, Aug. 25. Walsh and two other area physicians spoke in favor of having a mask mandate for schools in light of the surge in active COVID-19 cases in the area; Walsh told the board that the Ashley Family Clinic saw more than a dozen pediatric COVID-related cases on Tuesday. When he brought his concerns to the board, Dr. Barry Thompson told the members, "I can tell you masks are safe for kids." Some parents who spoke at the same meeting spoke against the mandate, saying it violates their civil liberties. (VERSHAL HOGAN/News Observer)
