A Parkdale man has been arrested for an alleged New Year’s Eve murder.

Deputies with the Ashley County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of an injured person in the 300 block of School Street in Parkdale at approximately 11 p.m. Dec. 31. The deputies found the injured man, later identified as Jesse Burton, in that area.

Burton was transported to the the Chicot County Memorial Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Ashley County Sheriff Tommy Sturgeon said a doctor at CCMMC notified one of the investigators at approximately 1 a.m. Jan. 1 that Burton had died of “massive burn inhalation injury.”

Sturgeon said Anthony Dewayne Brown of Parkdale was arrested and charged with first degree murder Jan. 1.

Brown appeared before Judge Sam Pope Jan 2, and the judge set his bond at $250,000.

Sturgeon said the case is an ongoing investigation and all information will be turned over to Tenth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Thomas Deen.

Brown was still in custody as of Jan 2.
