A highway construction worker was killed Friday morning in a road construction incident south of Hamburg.

The apparent accident reportedly occurred approximately three miles south of Hamburg on U.S. Highway 425 at approximately 11 a.m.

Investigators with the Ashley County Sheriff’s office said the incident involved a piece of construction equipment — a road grader — and a single victim.

The investigator declined to release the name of the victim or any other details involving the accident, though he said the victim was from out of town.

The investigator said, however, that he believed it to just be a freak accident, but couldn’t say anything for sure until the investigation was completed. No other information was available at press time.
