Deputies from the Ashley County Sheriff’s office arrested a Greene County man after he attempted to hold a woman and her children hostage in Snyder.

John West, 31, of Paragould, was arrested Nov. 5 after allegedly pulling a gun on a woman and her children and threatening them.

Deputies responded to a call that a man was banging on the door of a home trying to gain entry. The deputies were dispatched to a residence in Snyder . Before deputies could arrive, a person who was nearby heard the commotion and also called 911. The witness said that the suspect had a gun and was threatening to kill the woman who lived in the home.

According to the report, when law enforcement arrived, the victim and one of her young children were outside of the home. The victim told police that when she attmpeted to go back into the home to retrieve her other young child, he put a gun to her head.

The deputies were able to safely remove the second child from the home. West was arrested on scene and as of Monday morning was still in custody at the Ashley County Sheriff’s office.
