Log truck wrecks on U.S. 82

Members of the West Crossett Fire Department responded to the scene of a single-vehicle collision when a log truck ran off U.S. 82 Tuesday afternoon.

A log truck ran off of the highway on Tuesday afternoon, and though it took longer than usual to clear the scene of the wreck, no one was hurt or injured.

Ashley County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Daniel Watson said the driver — whose name law enforcement officials had not released at press time — was traveling east on U.S. Highway 82 when he felt sick and reached for a bag.

“He said he was looking for a bag or something and when he looked back up he lost control,” Watson said.

Watson said the incident was a single-vehicle collision and that there were no other people involved.

The driver suffered only minor injuries.

Though the wreck was considered minor, Watson said the response to get the vehicle removed from the ditch where it stopped was more protracted than usual.

Watson said first responders had to be careful of a gas line near the area where the truck landed and special precautions were being taken.

No additional information was available at press time.
