Hamburg Mayor Dane Weindorf has died. He was 74.

City Hall announced the mayor’s death in a social media posting.

It is with very heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Mayor Dane A. Weindorf,” the post said. “We ask that you keep his family, friends and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

While the city did not announce the late mayor’s cause of death, in recent years he has had some health concerns, including a battle with cancer. His cancer had previously been declared in remission.

“He was such a great mayor and man. It’s Hamburg’s loss,” said assistant to the mayor Georganna Cossey in an online post. “He loved our town and worked so hard for us all.”

Weindorf was last re-elected to the office in 2018.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
