The Hamburg Area Chamber of Commerce has announced a drive-in movie event that will take place on Saturday.
Chamber Executive Director Georganna Cossey said that the event is free and something they decided to do in an effort to give back to the community.
“We wanted to find a way to give back to the community and give people an opportunity to do something fun with their family that supports social distancing,” Cossey said.
The chamber purchased FM radio transmitter equipment so that people could hear the movie from their vehicle radios.
The movie will be shown behind the Ashley County Courthouse and Cossey said they are asking that guests get parked and settled before 8 p.m. The movie planned is 1994’s “The Little Rascals”.
Concession stands open will be open and food trucks will be parked in the area. Cossey said on Monday that they had at least three food trucks scheduled to attend and she was waiting to hear back from a fourth.
“Everyone turning a profit will be donating a portion to the Hamburg food pantry,” Cossey said.
Social distancing guidelines for this event will be announced later in the week. Cossey also said the Chamber is planning another drive-in event in August.
