Hamburg voters will begin in earnest the process of choosing their next mayor starting next week.

Early voting for the special mayoral election will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Clerk of Court’s office in the Ashley County Courthouse from June 1 to 4.

The final day to early vote will be June 7.

Election Day voting will be from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 8.

The two candidates in the race, Keith Long and David Streeter, are vying for the office that was vacated when former Mayor Dane Weindorf died earlier this year.

The successful candidate will hold the office at least through Dec. 31, 2022, but will be eligible to run for re-election.

A third candidate, Glen Lawson, had qualified for the race, but later withdrew, citing personal reasons.

Long’s professional background is in the manufacturing industry. He worked for both Georgia Pacific and Alrez before beginning his current role as an advanced manufacturing instructor at The University of Arkansas-Monticello’s College of Technology-Crossest (UAM-CTC) .

Streeter has spent the majority of his professional career in education, with 10 years spent at Hamburg High School as a teacher and 16 additional years in educational leadership positions. He is currently the Director of Student Services and Affairs at UAM-CTC.
