Driver sideswipes 18-wheeler, walks away unharmed

The vehicle driven by John Mount came to a rest in a field off U.S. 82 after striking an 18-wheeler in the roadway.

The Ashley County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle collision in West Crossett last week.

The crash, which was on U.S. 82 just west of the Crossett city limits, was Sept. 26.

Reports from the ACSD said that a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by John Mount, 80, of Crossett, was traveling east on U.S. 82 when the incident occurred.

Mount’s vehicle crossed the center line and sideswiped a westbound 18-wheeler driven by Percy Alford, 29, of Strong.

The 18-wheeler pulled to the shoulder but was missing at least two tires after impact.

The Chevrolet came to a final rest in the field on the north side of the highway.

Both drivers were reported to have “no apparent injuries” on the report.

No other details have been released at this time.
