The Crossett Sports Complex will be getting a new sign bearing a new name in the coming months.

The Crossett City Council voted on Monday to name the sports complex after Crossett’s late mayor, Scott McCormick, who died last month.

Mayor Crystal Marshall proposed the idea to the council and asked that the members consider it.

Parks and Recreation Director Larry Cantley said that it had been suggested years back that the complex be named in his honor, but Mayor McCormick had opposed the move.

“Even though he may have been against it when he was here, I would like to think now he would appreciate being remembered,” Marshall said.

Councilman Dale Martinie said that he couldn’t think of anyone who would be more fitting for the position and he made a motion supporting the move, which was approved unanimously.

Marshall said she had been working with the highway department on other city signs and would add this one.

Martinie pointed out in an earlier meeting that there are no signs coming into town indicating to travelers that the sports complex is there and that it would make it easier for visitors if there was something on the road to guide them.

Marshall said that she wanted to bring the idea of naming the complex after McCormick before any sign was finalized.
