Crossett Fire Department crews responded to a call for mutual assistance from the Georgia-Pacific Fire Brigade Tuesday afternoon.

The call followed a fire in the area of the No. 8 paper machine.

Crossett Fire Chief Bo Higginbotham said the event caused a significant amount of smoke in the basement area of the building, but the CFD’s response to the incident only lasted approximately an hour-and-a-half.

Georgia-Pacific Crossett Public Affairs Manager Jennifer King said no injuries were sustained in the incident.

“We did request assistance from the Crossett Fire Department and are grateful for the first responders who assisted us,” King said.

The company is assessing the damage at the site and has begun an investigation into the incident, she said.
