Car crashes into front of Fred's in North Crossett

Emergency and law enforcement officials responded to the scene of Fred's in North Crossett, where a driver had crashed into the front of the store, shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday. Ashley County Sheriff Tommy Sturgeon said the driver, who he characterized as elderly, mistakenly applied the acceleration pedal instead of the brake when approaching the store. Sturgeon also said an employee inside the store was knocked down by the collision. The driver and the employee, neither of whom were publicly identified Wednesday afternoon, were transported to Ashley County Medical Center by the Crossett Fire Department. The matter remains under investigation.
