The Boys and Girls Club of Ashley County has passed a milestone with more than 1,000 members.
Speaking at the club’s annual banquet, BAGC board member Chase Carlson provided welcome, telling them that the Club exceeded 1,000 members in 2022, with 120 active day-to-day members, ranging in ages from six to 18 years of age.
Carlson explained that the purpose of the club is to help all young people reach their full potential as they grow, as well as to help them thrive within their communities.
The club provides fun activities and an entry into sports for some of its members; the staff continually looks towards the future and they have created additional opportunities for club members to learn new skills.
Now club members can learn the ropes of the work force as well.
Those members who are 13 years of age or older can participate in retail training. They can work the concession stand and learn basic skills such as making change and keeping inventory.
Carlson said there are over 100 programs to choose from to learn about trade-based employment as well.
The staff continues to focus on building the academic strength of its members as well.
Certified Teacher Kacy Jo Gill is a staff who works with students during the Club’s enhanced Power Hour/Project Learn educational program.
Carlson commended the communication between the teachers of the district and the club staff, explaining that the contact helps the club staff better assist members with any academic areas that they may want or need to focus on or in which to improve.
The Club has two registration opportunities each year, and with a membership children are able to participate with other students in the Club’s various activities throughout the school year and during the summer.
With the continued support of businesses and other sponsors throughout the community, the BAGC of Ashley County strives to keep the cost of the memberships affordable for area families, Carlson said.
