Deputies with the Ashley County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Thursday for allegedly Internet stalking and attempting to meet up with a juvenile.

Investigators with the ACSO said they learned that Tony McManus, 57, of Monticello was planning to meet up with a 14-year-old he had been talking to on the internet.

ACSO Chief Investigator Josh Pollock said that when they learned of the meeting, they intervened and arrested McManus  in Walmart parking lot at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

McManus said on the scene that he knew the juvenile was 14 and that, “I did a bad a very bad thing.”

Pollock said the information would be turned over to the 10th Judicial District prosecuting attorney, but did not release any other information or the name of the juvenile.

“I want people to know who he is and what he is doing,” Pollock said.

Pollock said that he wants parents to be aware that these situations happen everywhere and he urges parents to monitor their child’s Internet and social media usage.

“These predators are out there hiding in plain sight,” Pollock said.
