The Crossett Bass Club will host its 45th annual Youth Fishing Tournament at the Crossett Port next weekend.
Each year, the club hosts a youth tournament for ages six to 12 and 13 to 17 for the youth of Ashley County and surrounding areas.
“We usually have about 30 to 40 kids each year, and everyone that fishes receives a bag of fishing baits and lures,” Crossett Bass Club Treasurer Dale Phillips said.
Last year, 39 youth showed up to fish in the tournament.
In addition to trophies and participation treat bags, the winners also receive prizes such as fishing pools, tackle boxes, flashlights and other fishing gear donated by the tournament sponsors.
The tournament’s awards are given out for total weight and to the fisherman who catches the biggest bass.
The youth can weigh up to five qualifying fish to determine their overall weight. The Largemouth bass must be at least 13 inches long to qualify, but there is no limit on spotted bass.
Prizes are given for the top five contestants in each age group with the highest weight. In addition, each contestant can enter one fish to compete for the “big bass” award.
