The Ashley County fair kicks off this weekend starting with the horse shows and the second annual Ashley County Horsemanship Pageant on Saturday.

Registration for the horse show is at 8 a.m. Saturday, and the horse shows will began at 9 a.m.

Registration for the horsemanship pageant has closed, and the contestant list for the five divisions, Miss Ashley County Horsemanship, Teen Miss, Sweetheart, Princess and Little Miss has been finalized.

“We’ve added two age categories this year to increase contestant numbers and interest,” pageant director Terri Clark said.

This year’s contestants are Kaitlyn Barnett in the Miss Division; Jalyn White, Ashley Hollis and Addison Gray in the Teen Miss; Mabry Davis in the Sweetheart division; Maddison Clark, Braley Moffatt, and Katherine Barnes in the Princess division; and Katelyn Kelley in Little Miss.

“These girls have a lot going for them, each has something special. I want to encourage them to try something new, which will help them grow,” Clark said.

Clark said she feels that the pageant has grown and is changing to better prepare girls to compete for their next title.

“I really believe we have some girls that can go out and represent the equine world from South Arkansas,” Clark said. “They love horses, they love country and they love agriculture."
