The Crossett School District’s Board of Education voted Monday to move an additional $500,000 in contingency funds to the new Crossett High School construction project.

The school district broke ground on the more than $20 million construction project in late February, and had included — in addition to the money needed to meet the construction bids — a $500,000 contingency fund for unforeseen costs.

Since construction has commenced, the project is on track to eventually exceed that initial contingency fund by approximately $85,000, Superintendent of Schools Gary Williams said.

The costs that took the money included work on a sewer line, installation of sewer infrastructure between buildings and the hauling off of additional soil material, he said.

Because of that, the district needed to dedicate additional contingency funds to the project, Williams said, though he told board members he did not think they would be used.
