The public will have an opportunity Thursday to voice its thoughts about the proposed rezoning several blocks that will allow commercial operations in what are now residential neighborhoods.

The Crossett Planning Commission will host a public hearing about rezoning the 200 blocks of Beech, Elm and Cedar streets from residential to neighborhood commercial properties at 6 p.m. March 16 in the Economic Development meeting room at 125 Main St. in Crossett.

Since the rezoning was first proposed, the city has erected a number of signs advertising the hearing around the district where the change would take effect.

Public Works Director Jeff Harrison said city ordinances require that the signs be at four feet by four feet with black lettering on a white background.

The area under consideration is currently zoned as R-D, or duplex residential.

If it is re-zoned, it will be classified as C-N, or neighborhood commercial.
